Description
The MSOs( Multiple Service Operators) in North America standardized DOCSIS (Data Over Cable System Interface Specification), the de-facto standard of cable modem, at March '97. This has greatly promoted the penetration of cable TV access networks and, at the same time, there are emerging demands to provide integrated communication services over the cable in addition to conventional internet access services. DOCSIS provides the powerful and flexible solution for these services. This paper provides the technical details of DOCSIS and standardization activities.
