Description

Recently much attention has been paid to the notion of "ontology" in the field of knowledge engineering. We have been developing an ontology based problem solving model construction environment CLEPE and on the top an authoring tool for Computer Based Training systems (named Smart Trainer/AT). The authoring tool can support the authors' work by providing modeling guidlines or managing the consistency of the model based on the problem solving ontology. The key to a human-freindly environment is to build reasonable problem solving ontology. Many fundamental problems of how to build such ontologies, however, have been left open. In this paper, we will address two of them, that is, (1)how domain concepts are integrated into task context, (2)how change of a model caused by problem solving is captured. Firstly, we consider theory on conceptual relation (is-a, part-of) and identity highly related to the problems. Then we will illustrate the task ontology for Smart Trainer/AT built based on the consideration.
