Description
In this paper, a finite element method is applied to the analysis of stress singularity solution at a notch tip in plate bending deformation problem. The element stiffness matrix and element stress matrix are formulated by the finite element method which is based on the weighted residual method. The stress singularity parameter and the stress and displacement mode corresponding to its parameter are calculated as an eigen value problem. Applying the present method to an analysis of the stress singularity at the notch in homogeneous plate bending, an excellent agreement is obtained with William's analytical solutions. The stress singularities around the notch at a bimaterial interface of bending plates are analysed by the present method, and good results are obtained compared to analytical solutions.
