Description
This paper describes the nonlinear analytical method for estimating earthquake response behavior of highrise RJC space frame using equivalent vibration model so called multi-mass system. The analytical results are compared with the results of the rigorous earthquake response analysis taking account of the inelastic behavior of each constituent member in the space frame, and the usefulness of this method is examined. The equivalent vibration model where bending and shearing deformations of each planar frame in the space frame can be considered is set up based on the results of the nonlinear static analysis. The hysteresis rule of each deformation is the Mao's degrading trilinear type. For aseismic design, this analytical method is very helpful tool because it needs further less computational time than the rigorous one.
