Description

New epoxy resins were prepared by the epoxidation of vinyl groups in the polyethers, which were obtaind by ring-opening polymerization of 4-vinylcyclohexene-1-oxide. The reactivity of the new epoxy resins is similar to that of glycidyl ethers and higher than that of usual cycloaliphatic epoxides owing to the terminal position of epoxy groups in the molecule.<BR>The new epoxy resins were cured with anhydrides, phenols, amines and trifluoroboron-amine complexes. Since Tg of the cured resins was so high, high temperatures were necessary to complete curing reactions. The mole ratio of anhydride to epoxy groups affected the thermal stability and water-absorption. The new epoxy resins were superior to the electrical properties and the strength, and expected to be applicable to various industrial fields.
