Description
For the calculation of intrinsic molecular weight distribution (Mn, Mw, Mw/Mn) of butylated methylol melamine resin (BMF) and butylated-methylol urea resin (BUF) by GPC method, the calibration curve and the relative sensitivity of the RI detector were investigated. The calibration curve of BMF and BUF was determined as following formula.<BR>log Mn=-0.165Ve+11.9 (40<Ve<58) <BR>But it was not superimposed on the polystyrene curve in portion of high molecular weight (Fig. 3). The relative sensitivity for BMF and BUF depended on nitrogen content or butoxy group content, and changed in the ranee of 1. 00 to 1. 40 and 1. 00 to 1. 65, respectively (Fig. 7, Fig. 8).<BR>Molecular weight distribution of BMF, BUF which were calculated by using the polystyrene curve were almost less than the intrinsic values (Table 3, Table 4).<BR>Butoxy group contents in BMF and BUF which were determined by 1H-NMR decreased with the increase of molecular weight (Fig. 9, Fig. 10).
