A 76-year-old woman was first seen at our clinic in October 1994 complaining of inability to actively extend the MP joint of the long finger of her left hand with accompanying pain and swelling (Fig. 1). She could fully extend and flex all other finger and wrist joints bilaterally. There was no known injury. X-ray changes of the MP joint of the long finger included narrowing of the joint space, subchondral sclerosis, cyst, and marginal osteophytes (Fig. 2).
