Measuring the Apparent Movement Perception Thresholds of Kinetic Forms with Surface Lines and Forms of Various Color Combinations

説明

In this study, lines and forms of various color combinations and with eight different color visibility rankings were examined with regard to their rotational speed thresholds. Whether they influenced the visual illusion effects of kinetic forms and participants’ perception and judgment of apparent movement was explored, as were the causal relationships between color visibility ranking, rotational speed, and apparent movement. The method of adjustment in psychophysics was used in the experiment, which revealed relationships between the color combinations and rotational speed, the upper and lower absolute thresholds of illusory motion and the speed threshold range, and participants’ perception and judgment of apparent movement. The optimal kinetic illusion effect and apparent movement perception effect were obtained under the combination of the black figure and white background.
