説明
cine, Kyushu University was established in 1907 in Fukuoka, Japan. The first professor and chairman of the department was Professor Inokichi Kubo, who graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1900 and studied otolaryngology under Professor Gustav Killian in Germany from 1903 to 1906. After the retirement of Professor Kubo in 1935, the department was next directed by Professors Minoru Sasaki (1935–1957), Seiichi Kawata (1957– 1970), Ikuichiro Hiroto (1971–1981) and Takuya Uemura (1982–1992) and Sohtaro Komiyama. It was my honor to become chairman in 1992 and remain so at the present time. The department has now been recognized as one of the leading departments in the field of otolaryngology in Japan. Last year, we celebrated the ninetieth anniversary of the department and we decided to publish a collection of commemorative papers to honor all past and present clinicians who have contributed so much to our program. This supplementary issue of the European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology contains some of the results of the basic and clinical researches undertaken recently at our department. Papers involving head and neck oncology were reviewed by me, those in otology and rhinology by Akira Inokuchi, associate professor, and those in laryngology and oral medicine by Tomoya Yamamoto, lecturer. It is also our intent that these papers contribute to the progress of otolaryngologic research. S. Komiyama
