<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>The synthesis of thieno[2,3‐d]pyrimidines like (V) and (XII) involves introduction of a carbonyl group at position 5 of the pyrimidine ring, sulfuration at position 6, and subsequent cyclocondensation with alkyl bromides.</jats:p>
