<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Cyclocondensation of o‐aminobenzenethiol (Ia) with the iminoquinolinones (II) gives phenothiazine dyes (IIIa) and (IIIb) in good yield, whereas o‐aminophenol (Ib) gives only poor yields of (IIIc) and (IIId).</jats:p>
