Morphology and electronic structure of graphitic sponges

Abstract Based on polyhedral packing in space, we demonstrate the new construction method for the structures of graphitic sponges expanding in three dimensional space because of the the introduction of 7- or 8-membered rings in a graphite sheet, which we propose to call “Pearcene”. The electronic structures of Pearcenes are discussed using the tight binding method.
