Vibration Analysis Test Procedure Developed for Checking Machining Setup
Search this article
Description
The paper stresses the importance of applying vibration analysis to the individual part-manufacturing setup on production floor, where there exist vast potentials of upgrading machine tool performance by solving vibration problems attributable not only to the machine tools but much more to the particular combinations of workpiece, tooling, and the machine. Based on the fundamental knowledge on machining vibration and test principles accumulated through preceding achievements, a new set of short-time test procedure is proposed. The technology utilizes advanced and recently popular electronic measuring and data processing equipments such as a real time Fourier analyser. The test methods are refined through trials so as to be documented in the test manual. The short-time test procedure consists of five phases; they are, (1) Cutting test, (2) Static compliance test, (3) Structure dynamic test, (4) Feed drive dynamic test, and (5) Idling vibration test. The paper summarizes the kinds of equipments to be used, purpose and methods in each of five test phases, and an example set of the test data obtained on a lathe.
