Description

Abstract 1. 1. The sterol compositions of three species of jelly fish and a species of sea anemone were determined by gas-liquid chromatography. The sterols were a mixture of C26- to C29-sterols. Cholesterol was the major sterol in all animals examined. 2. 2. The presence of C30-sterol (gorgosterol) was not indicated in the sterols of coelenterates examined. 3. 3. Jelly fishes, Spirocodon saltatrix and Aurelia aurita, contained extremely small amounts of lipids.
