Description

Abstract When 7α,12α-dihydroxy-3-oxocholanic-12β- 3 H acid and 7α-hydroxy-3-oxocholanic-7β- 3 H acid were administered to rats furnished with bile fistulas, cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid, respectively, were excreted in their bile. In addition, 3β,7α-dihydroxychol-5-enic-24- 14 C acid was converted to chenodeoxycholic acid. The significance of the C-7α-hydroxyl group in bile acid formation from cholesterol is discussed.
