Description

Abstract
Diphenyl ether‐formaldehyde resin was prepared at 80°C in propionic acid by p‐toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst. The mass distribution curve of molecular weight of the resin agreed well with IMOTO's equation.
From the IR spectrum and elementary analysis of the resin it was concluded that the resin consists of diphenyl ether units, connected by methylene groups, and with H or CH2OCOC2H5 as end‐groups.
