The presence of one-fireball-like behaviour in multiple particle productions by muons

Search this article

Description

49 selected events from 133 muon-nucleon interactions in the energy range from of 10 to 100 GeV have been obtained by the underground group of the Osaka City University by means of large cloud chambers; the emulsion group of the University has also observed more than 200 events of pion production in nuclear emulsion bombarded with the 5 GeV/c muon beam from the Brookhaven accelerator. In the present paper we shall try to show that a large part of the cloud chamber data with more than two particles is consistent with the predictions of the one-fireball model in which a fireball may be emitted in the centre-of-mass system at a large angle from the incident-muon axis, whereas the emulsion data at 5 GeV/c are dominated by contributions from isobars.
