A New MPEG-2 Solution Using a 2nd ALU in the RISC

MPEG is effective on video-on-demand system for visual equipment and digital networking. The architecture of 32-bit RISC processor with the four multiply-add operation called the second ALU is proposed. Moreover, the data transfer for IDCT was evaluated, then it was found that the process capacity of one third of the calculation is sufficient and the process is possible in parallel with the calculation. This paper discusses the buffer memory structure and the data mapping in the second ALU in order to realize a high speed IDCT processing. In other words, it is suitable for SOCs for DTV, DVD and audio visual networking system.
