Implicit Large Eddy Simulation of a Flow Around an Airfoil Near Its Stall Angle at Reynolds Number 106

A simulation of a subsonic flow around an airfoil near its stall angle, at Reynolds number of 10, is investigated. The 3-d time-dependent incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved by the multi-directional finite-difference method. A curvilinear coordinate system of O-type topology is used. No explicit turbulence models are employed, but a third-order upwind scheme is adopted. Lift coefficient Cl and drag coefficient Cd were found to agree well with the experimental values near the stall angle.
