Description

Abstract In the investigation of minor sesquiterpenoids inRosa rugosa leaves, 11 novel sesquiterpenes, eight carotane aldehydes, two carotane acids and an acoranoid, were isolated and their structures elucidated by means of chemical and spectroscopic methods. The present study showed thatR. rugosa is a major source of C-14-oxygenated carotanoids. Factors associated with stereoselective oxygen-introduction in epoxidation and/or peroxidation of the carotane skeleton is also discussed.
