説明
Abstract 1. 1. Injection of ACTH resulted in blacking of the integument but it did not inhibit discoloration. ACTH had no effect on the carotenoid metabolism. 2. 2. Phenylthiourea treatment resulted in making the integument paler, finally to a yellowish light grey, but it did not inhibit discoloration. 3. 3. Phenylthiourea strongly affected the metabolism of ketocarotenoids. The metabolic pathway, monoketocarotenoid to diketocarotenoid, was inhibited. The accumulation of carotenoid was also inhibited. 4. 4. From the above-mentioned results, it seems that the thyroid has no direct relation to discoloration and inhibition of ketonization of xanthophylls.
