Possible production of H particle by weak decay of Λ hypernuclei

Search this article

Description

It is pointed out that the weak pionic decay of Λ hypernuclei could produce the H particle, if the H mass is as light as that of two nucleons. The possibility of such light H particle has been suggested recently by the lattice QCD calculation. An experiment to detect pions from the weak decay of Λ hypernuclei is proposed to search for the H. The decay rate of the Λ hypernuclei to produce the H is calculated to demonstrate feasibility of the experiment. The π+ decay, in particular, is shown to be a unique signature of the H if it is as light as predicted by the lattice QCD calculation.
