Interactive System based on the False Perception of Acceleration and Verticality

The objective of this study is to implement a cost efficient interactive system that provides user the sense of realistic acceleration in virtual world. The sense of acceleration enhances the immersion of the user. This is achieved by tilting the whole equipment and presenting visual cue of acceleration to the user. After presenting our first implementation "Project Abyss" in Laval Virtual 2014, we improved the sense of immersion by rebuilding whole the equipment. The result indicates that the existing implementations of virtual acceleration can be improved by placing appropriate rotation axis. We also found that the sense of acceleration is strongly affected by the state of the legs.
