Abstract 1. 1. Changes in serum Mg and Ca concentrations were examined in bullfrog tadpoles, Rana catesbeiana , and in frogs, Rana nigromaculata , kept in a high Mg and/or high Ca solution for 5 days. 2. 2. The serum Mg concentrations of these animals increased in a high Mg environment. 3. 3. The serum Ca concentrations did not increase in a high Ca environment. 4. 4. It was suggested that serum Mg concentrations are not as strictly controlled as serum Ca concentrations.
