Phase Equilibria in the Pseudoternary System ZrO<sub>2</sub>−Y<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>−Cr<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> at 1600°C in Air

<jats:p>The pseudoternary system ZrO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>‐Y<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>‐Cr<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> was studied at 1600°C in air by the quenching method. Only one intermediate compound, YCrO<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>, was observed on the Y<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>−Cr<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> join. ZrO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> and Y<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> formed solid solutions with solubility limits of 47 and 38 mol%, respectively. The apex of the compatibility triangle for the cubic ZrO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>, Cr<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>, and YCrO<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> three‐phase region was located at =17 mol% Y<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> (83 mol% ZrO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>). Below 17 mol% Y<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>, ZrO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> solid solution coexisted with Cr<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>. Cr<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>3</jats:sub> appears to be slightly soluble in ZrO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>(ss).</jats:p>
