Nonfaradaic potentiometric titration of ionic surfactants

Search this article

Description

Summary Potentiometric titrations of the anionic surfactant, sodium tetraphenylborate, with the cationic surfactants, tetradecyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride and cetylpyridinium chloride have been carried out. An S-shaped titration curve was obtained with a mercury indicator electrode referred to SCE. The potential change is considered to be due to change in the Lippmann potential of zero-charge when the solution is deaerated. When the solution is not deaerated, however, the potential change is considered to follow the zero-current potential. Sodium dodecylbenzenesulphonate can be accurately titrated with tetradecyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride potentiometrically.
