説明
We synthesized the powder samples of Ba(Cu 1- x Zn x ) 2 V 2 O 8 ( x =0 -0.1) and investigated their magnetic susceptibilities. It was proved that the ground state of BaCu 2 V 2 O 8 is of spin-singlet with an energy gap of Δ=343 K to the excited state, which is characteristic of the alternating spin chain. With increasing x , the Curie–Weiss term increases in the low temperature region, whereas Δ is almost independent of x . Besides the Weiss temperature, θ, is only about 1 K for Zn-substituted samples. These results indicate that the weaker interaction in the chain is almost zero while the stronger one about 343 K. Namely, the dimer pair in the alternating chain is almost isolated. This is probably due to the anisotropy of the Cu 3 d -orbital occupied by the hole as well as the characteristic connection of the CuO 6 octahedra.
