A Survey on Platooning Techniques in VANETs

Description

Vehicular Communications are an emerging technology, with a broad potential on applications on and off the road. One on-road application that has a lot of interest is Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC), often referred to as platooning. Vehicles travel behind each-other, mostly by following the leading vehicle, which manages the platoon, by allowing vehicles to join or leave the platoon, dividing or merging platoons in certain conditions, as well as deciding on travel speed and inter-vehicular distance during movement. In this paper we provide an analysis of ongoing work and considerations on future directions of platooning as a technology with a huge potential for revolutionizing the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
