Trapped and transverse motion of a charged particle within tilted electrodes in silicone oil

説明

As for seeking practically applicable electrode configuration to remove conductive particles from liquefied plastics, the conductive particle motion in the tilted electrode system has been carefully investigated. A charged particle shows up-and-down motion between electrodes. Depending on the applied voltage, a particle transverses either toward narrower gap or the wider gap. Between those two modes, there is a steady up-and-down motion. This trapped position is gradually shifted toward wider gap side with the increase of the applied voltage. One of the interesting results is that the electric field at the trapped position is almost constant, 1.6/spl sim/1.8 Mv/m nevertheless the trapped position shifts. The numerical calculation for the trapped position reveals that the trapped position with experiment is located somewhat in the narrower gap side than the calculated value. Assuming that the particle charge is 40/spl sim/60% of the theoretical prediction, the calculated trapped position is in good agreement with the experiment results.
