Penetration of rotating magnetic field and its effects on electron confinement in field-reversed configuration

説明

The electron motion equation in an infinite long field-reversed configuration (FRC) with a rotating magnetic field (RMF) which sustains the configuration is numerically solved. The electron trajectories in a fully penetrated RMF are regular, while those in a partially penetrated one are complex because of the additional drift due to the radial gradient of the strength of an RMF. The electron confinement in a partially penetrated RMF, however, is not always worse because of the magnetic well formed by a partially penetrated RMF and the equilibrium radial electric field produced by the electron motion in the azimuthal direction.
