On the possible bounds on muon pair and W± production in super-high-energy hadron collisions

Description

Possible bounds onthe muon pair and W± production cross-sections in high-energy hadron collisions are discussed in connection with a theory predicting cross-sections linearly rising with the incident-proton energy for both cases. It is pointed out that the cross-sections do not seem to exceed the order of 10 μb up to several hundred TeV proton energies from the observation of the steeply falling spectrum of cosmic-ray muons where the energetic muons produced forward from such muon sources are expected to flatten the spectrum.
