Freeze-drying of drug-additive binary systems. IV. Effects of saccharide addition on the crystallization of cefazolin sodium in frozen aqueous solution

Search this article

Description

Differential scanning calorimetric measurements of aqueous cefazolin sodium (CEZ) solutions containing various amounts of oligosaccharide were carried out after rapid freezing by liquid nitrogen. The exothermic peak due to CEZ crystallization shifted to a higher temperature with an increase of saccharide concentration, indicating the suppression of CEZ crystallization by saccharide addition. Since the degree of the suppression was enhanced with an increase of saccharide chain length, intertwining of saccharide molecules seems to be an important factor affecting the crystallization of CEZ.
