Diabetic state-induced regulation of glucose uptake to skeletal muscle by insulin: a possible mechanism of its enhancement and autoinhibition

Description
There is as yet no consensus as to what effect insulin has on glucose uptake in the skeletal muscles of diabetic animals (Table 1). Different results have been reported from investigators whose animals were of different species, who used metabolic or non-metabolic glucose, or who worked with fed or fasted animals. We chose to work with mouse diaphragms. We used diaphragms of the KK-CAY mouse, genetically disposed to a syndrome similar to type 2 diabetes mellitus and including hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, obesity and insulin resistance [12,13].
