<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Sulfurization of the isothiazolone (I) with phosphorus pentasulfide gives the isothiazolethione (II) which rearranges on methylation with trimethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate (III), forming the thiazole (IV).</jats:p>
