Experimental studies on power system transient stability due to introduction of superconducting fault current limiters

Description

This paper describes an improving effect of a resistive-type superconducting fault current limiter (R-type SCFCL) on the electric power system stability. Experiments with the power transmission simulator as well as computer simulations were carried out. We observed the current limiting behavior of the R-type SCFCL for three-phase short-circuit fault and the suppressing process of the power swing after the clearance of the fault. It is ascertained that the R-type SCFCL introduced near the generator bus can significantly suppress the fault current and improve power system transient stabilities.
