Description

Abstract 1. 1. The longitudinal body wall muscle of Dolabella auricura consisted of unstriated fibres containing thick and thin filaments, and responded to single direct or indirect stimuli with twitch-like responses which showed marked summation and facilitation. 2. 2. The magnitude of mechanical response was dependent on [Ca] 0 and reduced by Mn ions. 3. 3. Effect of drugs indicated that the neuromuscular transmission may be cholinergic. 4. 4. Caffeine produced only small contracture tension even in high concentrations. 5. 5. It is suggested that contraction is principally initiated by the inward movement of Ca, but not by the release of stored Ca within the fibre.
