Structure, Composition and Superconductivity of High T<sub>c</sub> Tl–Ba–Ca–Cu–O System

<jats:title>ABSTRACT</jats:title><jats:p>Bulk high Tc superconductors of Tl<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>Ba<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>Ca<jats:sub>n−1</jats:sub>Cu<jats:sub>n</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2n+4</jats:sub> (n=1−4) and TlBa<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>Ca<jats:sub>n−1</jats:sub>Cu<jats:sub>n</jats:sub>O<jats:sub>2n+3</jats:sub> (n=2−5) were synthesized, and their structures, chemical compositions and superconducting properties were studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction, electron probe microanalysis, transmission electron microscopy, and electrical and magnetic measurements. Superconducting critical temperatures are discussed in terms of average Cu valence and Cu-O bond length within the plane which vary with the number of Cu layers.</jats:p>
