A multilayered annular liquid metal jet blanket concept for ICF reactors
Description
A novel idea of making nearly spherical chambers by annular liquid jets and applying it as first wall and blanket for inertial confinement fusion (ICF) reactors is presented. The parameters that affect the shape of an annular liquid jet are discussed to show which ones to control for obtaining the best chamber shape and size. An example is provided to illustrate the chamber parameters for a 500 MW/sub th/ ICF reactor using liquid lithium as the primary coolant. Critical issues in using this concept are discussed and the needed future research efforts are outlined.
