Generation of 500 T fields by electromagnetic flux compression and their application to cyclotron resonance experiments

Description

Abstract Magnetic fields higher than 500 T were generated by means of electromagnetic flux compression. They were applied to cyclotron resonance experiments for bulk GaAs and two-dimensional (2D) elecron systems in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells using a CO laser (5.527 μm). A large spin splitting was observed in 2D electron systems even for a carrier concentration higher than n = 10 11 cm −2 . The dependence of the effective mass and the spin splitting on carrier concentration was studied.
