Aerosol Formation and Evolution During Laser Ablation

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Low pressure differential mobility analysis and transmission electron microscopy were used to study the aerosol formed during 1064-nm pulsed Nd<jats:sup>3+</jats:sup>:YAG laser ablation of a solid cesium iodide (CsI) target. Measurements reveal that the aerosol is comprised of particles in three size regimes: particles with approximately log-normal size distributions and <jats:italic>D</jats:italic><jats:sub>pg</jats:sub> ~ 10 nm, compact spherical CsI particles with <jats:italic>D</jats:italic><jats:sub>pg</jats:sub> ~ 80 nm, and fractal-like agglomerates with <jats:italic>D</jats:italic><jats:sub>pg</jats:sub> ~ 1-3 μm.</jats:p>
