Radio source positioning using received time of arrival differences

Description

This paper describes the proper arrangement of stations, taking into consideration the propagation characteristics of radio signals, with the intent of measuring radio source locations with a high degree of accuracy. Stations are arranged in a straight line shape (line arrangement) or rectangular lattice shape (lattice arrangement), with constant separations. Multipath signals provide an error factor for computing time arrival differences. The location errors of radio sources caused by multipath delays are estimated by means of computer simulations. The results of simulations have clarified that the lattice arrangement can accurately measure radio source location relative to a line arrangement.
