Elastic Properties of Nd2Fe14B Between 120 and 300 K

Description

The authors conducted elasticity and specific heat measurements of Nd 2 Fe 14 B compounds, used in permanent magnets, to investigate the mechanism of a change in the easy magnetization axis direction at 130 K. Neither the elasticity nor the rigidity showed a notable temperature dependence, in contrast to certain rare earth-iron compounds, in which the elasticity drops sharply. The specific heat showed little temperature dependence below 180 K, and no sharp peak was observed, in contrast to the observation of a sharp peak accompanying rotation of the easy magnetization axis in PrCo 5 .
