Abstract 1. 1. Feeding experiments with β,β-carotene, canthaxanthin, lutein A and (3R.3′R)-zeaxanthin on the terrestrial snail Euhadra [itcallizona amaliae] were performed. 2. 2. Based on the experimental results, the oxidative metabolic pathway of β,β-carotene to canthaxanthin via isocryptoxanthin, echinenone and isozeaxanthin has been proposed. 3. 3. No metabolic transformation of canthaxanthin, lutein A and (3R,3′R)-zeaxanthin has occurred in E. callizona amaliae .
