The CP/MAS 13 C NMR spectrum of cellulose in the product from the incubated medium with the fluorescent brightener (4,4'-bis-[4-anilino-6-bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) amino-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl ylamino]-2,2'-stilbenedisulfonic acid) is similar to that for the non-crystalline component of native cellulose. The results suggest that the cellulose-brightener complex is formed by the inclusion of the brightener between the cellulose sheets corresponding to the (110) plane
