Usability Evaluation of 4-Direction Keys for Ladder Menu Operation
Description
In this research, the usability of three typical menu selection operation patterns using 4-direction keys was evaluated. These patterns are often used to set parameters and call functions in information equipment. In this experiment, the independent variables were the key operation methods, menu depth, number of menu items, and user age range. The dependent variables were task execution time and number of key presses. Sixty-two people participated in the experiment. The results show that the effect of menu depth and number of items varies depending on the operation methods. These results will be used to help establish ISO/IEC 17549-21.
