Piezoelectric resonance in uniaxially oriented films of chiral polymers

Description

Face-shear mode piezoelectric resonance has been measured in terms of dielectric frequency spectra for uniaxially oriented films of chiral polymers such as poly(lactic acid), poly(y-benzyl glutamate) and cyanoethyl cellulose. Analytical expressions are derived for the length-extensional and width-extensional mode resonance spectra of a 45/spl deg/ cut rectangular sample. Fitting the observed spectra allows estimates of the electromechanical coupling coefficient as well as dielectric and elastic constants as complex quantities. Piezoelectric relaxation spectra associated with the segmental motion are presented.
