説明
VOLUME 82 NUMBER 4 Mouth guards, like other dental prostheses, can be lost or misplaced, therefore they should be labeled for easy identification. This can be accomplished with a conventional character rubber stamp (Joint Stamp, Tanimoto Ltd, Tokyo, Japan) (Fig. 1). The stamp is used to form the individual identification with a hand torch (Buffalo Dental, Buffalo, N.Y.), which it is used to soften a selection of the ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) mouth guard material. This may require 10 or more applications of the heat source at the distance of 3 to 4 cm from the surface of the sheet, if the EVA material is more than 3 mm thick. The stamp block is sprayed with a silicone lubricant (Fig. 2) and pressed into the warm surface for a few seconds (Fig. 3). Application of the stamp block can be repeated if the print is not clear after the first attempt (Fig. 4). This is a fast, effective, and inexpensive way of marking an EVA mouth guard with personal identification.
