A Memory Model Based on Dynamical Behavior of the Hippocampus

A hippocampal memory model that contained synapses having nature of STDP was investigated. Potentiation and depression of excitatory recurrent connections took place after applying STDP algorithm in a CA3 network model that contained rich excitatory and inhibitory recurrent connections. Radial propagation of neuronal activity was organized by theta burst stimulation and continued for about 25 s as a short-term memory after termination of stimuli. We also developed a two-layer hippocampal model containing CA3 and CA1 networks. We will report preliminarily that neuronal assemblies that code temporal sequences are organized in CA1 using radial propagation of neuronal activity in CA3.
