Computerised tomography applied for orbital hypertelorism: A case report

Description

THE great advantage of computerised tomography, recently developed in Britain (Ambrose, 1973; Haunsfield, 1973) is that it clearly demonstrates soft tissue components as well as the bony architecture. It is now widely used in the diagnosis of neurosurgical, ophthalmological and otolaryngological lesions (Ambrose, 1974; Momose et al., 1975; Worzman and Holgate, 1976). We present a case of orbital hypertelorism corrected by orbito-crania-facial osteotomy in which computerised tomography was used for accurate preoperative measurements and for postoperative assessment. The ACTA scanner OIOO (Pfizer) was used with scans performed at o degree to the base line (orbito-meatal line). The patient was studied with the 160 x 160 matrix at 7.5 collimators. In order to maintain the necessary visualisation of the retrobular space, the ACTA number was varied from 204 to 210.
