説明

The anodic behaviour of Pb in acid solution has been studied thoroughly [l-4]. It revealed that the anodic layer was photoactive due to the presence of a-PbO (tetragonal) [5-61. Although both cu-PbO and /3-PbO are photoactive, the photosensitivity of cu-PbO was found to be greater than that of the p analogue [7]. The photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties of PbO, obtained by anodic oxidation of lead in acid medium, have also been studied by a number of researchers [5-lo]. In comparison to acid medium, very little investigation has been done on the electrochemical behaviour of Pb in alkaline electrolytes [ll-141. It is well known that a-PbO is stable in alkaline medium. Taking advantage of this fact, we have grown a thick film of photoactive a-PbO by electrochemical oxidation of Pb in alkaline medium [13]. However, investigations are rarely made for the improvement of conductivity as well as photoactivity of the cr-PbO film by developing new electrochemical routes of synthesis. In the present article we present some preliminary results on the electrosynthesis of a relatively thick film of a-PbO in hot alkaline resolution by the potential pulse coupled potentiodynamic anodization technique. The interesting result of our study is that this technique gives a film of higher conductivity and compara-
